Harrisburg, PA Trenchless Sewer Repair
Historically, Harrisburg, PA homeowners had to deal with sewer repairs that consisted of pulling up front yards to reach problem pipes. By manually digging trenches, sewer technicians were able to provide physical assistance in changing out pipes, fixing cracks or leaks, and taming root infestations in sewer systems. This procedure was very costly in both time and money, as manual digging required long hours. There was also the added fees of rehabilitation services for yards after technicians left, adding more to out of pocket costs for homeowners.
Trenchless technology was invented in order to bypass all above listed problems. This technology enabled service technicians to enable a much more effective and fast acting solution to most problems. This was extremely beneficial for their communities as technicians could solve more problems on a daily bases. This also saved homeowners the headache of repairing their home after sewer technicians had repaired their piping.
Trenchless sewer repair mainly consists of CIPP (cure in place piping) or pipe bursting and relining. Both methods are used depending on the structural integrity of the pipes in question. If pipes have large cracks or gaps in their walls or have corroded into becoming very delicate and easy to crack, pipe bursting and relining is the best course of action. Pipe bursting is when a burster head is placed within the pipe cavity. As it is dragged along the length of the pipe it breaks the pipe into pieces in order for there to be room for a new pipe to be placed. A liner is then selected, carefully cut, and inserted into the space where the old pipe resided. It is pulled in with machinery handled by technicians and is dimensionally exact to ensure a precision fit. The liner is then allowed time to cure to harden into a perfectly working pipe.
CIPP is used when the structural integrity of a pipe is structurally sound. This means that while there may be holes or cracks within the pipe, the pipe itself is still able to perform normal functions and tasks. In order to fill those cracks, a new liner is precision cut and carefully placed within the pipes using machinery that drags it into place through the old walls of the pipe. Hot air is then blown into the pipe to expand the liner until it fits snuggly against the old pipe wall. This ensures all cracks and holes are properly covered. Once the liner has had a chance to harden, it then performs and acts just like a regular pipe.
